Dutasteride belongs to a group called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. Dutasteride reduces the level of dihydrotestosterone in the body. Dutasteride inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone in the body by inhibiting both 5-alpha-reductase isoenzymes. Dihydrotestosterone is responsible for benign prostatic hyperplasia and Alopecia (Male pattern hair loss).
