Glycerin (Ripaglinide) is belongs a class of anti-diabetic drugs called meglitinide. By binding to ATP-dependent potassium receptors in the pancreatic beta cell membrane, the drug causes cell depolarization and the opening of calcium channels, which in turn release insulin from the beta cells. It is used to treat non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).
